The music for Karan Johar’s fifth directorial venture “Student of the Year” has been turning heads ever since the first promo of The Disco Song was unveiled on the 28th of August, 2012. With the soundtrack for the film being unveiled on the 31st August, the audiences have been hooked on to the movie’s music, including songs like “Ratta Maar”, “Kukkad”, “Vele” and the final track “Mashup of the Year” – an innovative mix of all the songs in the album. Music for this Karan Johar film was composed by Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani, with lyrics by Anvita Dutt Guptan.
As for the song “Vele”, this one has vocals the music directors Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani. While Vishal performs the English parts, Shekhar croons the rest of the song. An appealing number to shake your leg to, Vele is in essence a fun number to listen to and gives this Karan Johar film a dash of excitement. A youth-centric anthem of sorts, the song’s video also features the movie’s lead actors Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan portraying a care-free jolly-good life. In the video, the duo is shown partying, dancing and living life to the fullest. And that’s not all this song has to boast. A fantastic composition with a catchy beat and a punchy bass-line to compliment it, Vele also has Vishal Dadlani expressing his rap-skills. Mixing and blending music styles like Bhangra, electronic and a dash of dub-step, the song has a bass-drop in the between that’s bound to set the dance-floor ablaze.
Apart from “Vele”, the movie also includes the song “Ishq Wale Love”. A slow and soothing number with Shekhar Ravjiani, Salim Merchant, Neeti Mohan on vocals, the song has minimal music and is an easy-listen. Complete with a guitar strumming in the back, the song also has string melody and romantic lyrics good enough to melt your heart. Neeti Mohan’s vocals work as the icing on the cake for the song, making it all the more pleasant to listen to. Also, this song adds variety to an otherwise thumpy soundtrack for Karan Johar’s Student of the Year.
Karan Johar’s Student of the Year will hit theater screens on the 19th of October 2012. The film will mark the debut of Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan who will play the roles of three students. To be produced under the Dharma Productions banner owned by Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, Student of the Year is one of 2012’s most awaited movies.
