"Yes, I am doing a short film with Karan Johar,” says Randeep Hooda

Karan Johar’s upcoming direction, Bombay Talkies, has been in the news constantly these days. A 20-minute short-film, this will be the director-producer’s sixth directorial venture after a string of blockbusters that include include Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), My Name Is Khan (2010) and his latest release, Student of the Year (2012), starring newcomers Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt.

The upcoming film is a tribute to the 100 years of Hindi cinema and will have directors Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap directing the rest of the film’s 20-minute parts. For Karan Johar, a director synonymous with longer films, usually 200-minutes long, this short film is a challenge. “For me, it’s a challenging format. We have 20 minutes to tell a story, which is coherent and connected to the other plots. This can be a challenge for any filmmaker,” said Karan.

As per reports, Karan’s next film will star seasoned actors Rani Mukherjee and Randeep Hooda along with Saqib Siddique. "Yes, I am doing a short film with Karan Johar and it features Rani Mukherjee," said Randeep, choosing not to divulge any more. Also, this film will be shot at realistic locations that relate better with audiences and has parts captured at a suburban Mumbai station too. “Karan, who usually shoots in elaborate locations, will now shoot on the streets and other actual places,” says a source close to the Dharma Productions chief.

Bombay Talkies will hit cinema screens on the 3rd of May to commemorate the day the Father of Indian Cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke, released the first Indian motion picture, Raja Harishchandra.
