The Bollywood industry is transforming quickly and filmmakers have begun to resort to innovative ways to market their films. Filmmaker Rohan Sippy recently announced his next directorial venture, Nautanki Saala. Starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Kunaal Roy Kapur, this upcoming comedy has taken up a new means to promotion. An online show called Kutting with Kunaal, hosted by Kunaal Roy Kapur, has taken the internet by storm and is a comedy take on talk shows. From what we’ve heard, this show also has Karan Johar’s popular show, Koffee with Karan, as an inspiration!

Quoting Rohan Sippy, “Our show is a take on all chat shows. Of course, Karan’s show is quite popular and it’s a good reference point. The K of Kutting came from Kunaal and Khurrana. Karan’s show is a big show but ours is a zero-budget version of it. Kunaal is playing the worst talk show host in the world.” The filmmaker also went on to add, “We were thinking of ideas to promote the film and came up with the absurd idea of a talk show. Later, it turned into a fun idea and has developed so well. But the funny part is that it doesn’t promote our film outright.”

Karan Johar’s show, Koffee with Karan, ran for three whole seasons and featured several Bollywood bigwigs, speaking about their lives on-screen and off-screen. The show was noted for Karan Johar’s fresh and witty appeal and began to air in 2004.
